Aside from the cover, the first page, or the opening paragraphs if you will, of a book often determines whether a reader is going to dig further. Therefore, it is by no accident that writers dedicate a significant amount of time polishing this page and working it to perfection.

To honour such devotion, we, a group of writers, decided to start a literary magazine that values the passion and energy writers put in their first pages. We believe these pages deserve a unique platform that highlights the exciting potential of the writers and their stories.

first page embraces one simple, bold idea — publishing only the opening paragraphs of fiction works. It acts as a teaser and takes on the form of traditional newspaper with each issue showcasing five writers and their promising first pages.

first page is a not-for-profit, free-to-take (in selected Berlin bookstores) literary magazine based in Berlin, Germany.
